Propolis and its uses
Bee propolis has been used for medicinal purposes since the ancient time.
It is known for its natural anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
Propolis, or bee glue, is a natural wax-like resinous substance found in bee hives where it is used by honeybees as cement and to seal cracks or open spaces.
Propolis acts like an antibiotic to reduce microbial growth on the hive wall. It also protects the hive from uncontrolled airflow and external moisture.
Nowadays, propolis is a natural remedy found in many health food stores in different forms for topical use for burns, wound healing, acne etc. It is also commonly used in mouthwash and toothpaste to protect oral cavity.
Acne is very common in hot and humid weather
How does acne develop?
Hot and humid weather gives us sweaty skin and imbalanced skin. What do I mean by imbalanced skin? When you are exposed to the hot and humid weather, the skin is adapting by secreting more oil when it’s dry and control secretion when it’s hydrated.
People get the wrong idea of using a foamy cleanser to remove the excess oil and sweat so that your skin feels clean after washing. The right product is important to not remove too much of the oil and restore moisture in the skin. When the skin is balanced, there will not be excess oil secretion from the skin. And you will not get oily skin.
We sweat easily in our weather here. And when there’s sweat, there’s bacteria.
Remember when I talked about the oil secretion from the skin? When the excess oil is not removed, it get clogged up in the pores.
So when your pores are clogged up, bacteria feeds on them. We have the tendency to touch our face throughout our day at some point from holding your mobile phones against your face to touching your face after shaking hands with someone . All these action contributes to more bacteria and microbes lingering on your skin.
Hence, skin hygiene is very important! Of course with the right product 😉
